Daniel Evans’s production of South Pacific for Chichester Festival Theatre — Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Tony and Pulitzer-winning musical, nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 2022. The production transferred to a UK National Tour and Sadler’s Wells Theatre the following year.
The video design works within Peter McKintosh’s setting to build the world of the Pacific archipelago in 1943 — the heat, the distance, the particular quality of light that the score reaches for. A musical that has always known how to carry its political weight inside its romance, and the design follows that lead.
